Jewellery update

A couple of new things in my shops this week.

A simple pair of textured studs made from recycled silver...

Twisted silver necklace, something I've been working on getting right for a while. Pleased with this effect!

I am having fits and starts of inspiration, hoping to include some new gemstone designs for the autumn soon.

Thanks for looking :)

wedding jewellery 2011

A few bridal orders have been coming in over the last month so I think it is time for a blog post! I love making bridal jewellery and it is lovely to know that a bride will be wearing my designs on her special day.

I have a range of wedding jewellery in my shops, perfect for brides and bridesmaids, using freshwater and swarovski pearls, simple metals and vintage charms.

I also love to work on custom pieces, so contact me if you'd like something made just for you.

new pictures and freshening up for summer

I've been a busy little jewellery maker lately, I've added some new designs to my shops and I have also been reshooting pictures (helped by this lovely bright weather) for the summer wedding season.

I've just had a very nice parcel of vintage beads arrive so there will be some new vintage designs very soon, including more flowers!

summery jewellery and a promise!

I have mainly been making lots and lots of jewellery lately so my blog and foodie activities have been minimal..

I have lots of new jewellery in the shop and my bridal line is expanding by  the week.

Promise I'll be back with something foodie for your tastebuds soon!

The lovely butterfly necklaces are made with porcelain butterflies from Karen at Hodge Podge Arts - she has been so helpful creating these for me, they look beautiful worn, I have kept a purple one for myself!

Delicately different

Something new in my Etsy shop this week, and a little different...

I had a little bit too much fun making silver teardrops a couple of weeks ago and I had a lovely box full of differing sizes in this delicate shape. I was looking at them and struck upon the idea of making asymmetrical earrings, they are perfect for this!

I put the teardrops with some beautiful sparkly mystic quartz briolettes, and then added some vintage millefiori beads. I have a whole mixture of the beads and they are all slightly different, so were also begging to go into this design.

I am really pleased with the soft colours and the quirky design.

I hope you like them too!

Simple Shapes

I've been working with a lot of pearls recently, some lovely intricate mother of pearl and some beautiful vibrant lampwork. I sat down to my desk yesterday and made a whole bunch of really simple shapes for some everyday designs.

I like metalsmithing because it allows me to completely handcraft a piece of jewellery and use simple shapes to beautiful effects. The first piece of jewellery I made yesterday was these gold fill earrings. I intended to add some sparkly smoky quartz (yes I'm going into gemstones!) but they looked just as good as they were.

I'm keeping the first pair for myself, they are perfect for everyday wear and the warm colour goes with lots of different things.

These earrings are in my Etsy shop to buy.

More new and simple shapes coming this week, in silver and copper. Watch this space!

just two

I had a mildly productive weekend, I had lots of orders to pack up (yay!) so my attention turned to them. I made these new pair of earrings afterwards, I've been hoarding the beads for a little while, and finally found a good design for them.

I did have some similar smaller beads which I used for these earrings but the larger beads had me unstuck for a while. I hope you like these, they are rare and were given to me by a relative, there will be just 2 pairs for my etsy shop.

Retro Rainbow Bracelet - one of a kind
Made with lots of different lucite beads left from other projects, I've been wanting to make a little mixed up bracelet for a while, I love the rubix cube look this has.

Cinderella Earrings
Beautiful gilded gold and white vintage lucite beads, gold fill chain and sterling silver.

Apple Brandy Earrings
Glowing amber vintage lucite beads, handformed brass teardrops and brass earwires.

Hoping for even more new things this week!

back to normal + new jewellery

Well I'm back again now, I had a few days away plus a couple of days off work to work on my jewellery. I didn't manage any bobby pins but I have lots of new things for the shop anyhow!

Thankfully Tuesday brought four lovely packages of beads so I could get on with some new designs. I have updated my Kiwi earrings with new earwires and also listed these beautifully bright Emerald earrings made with little vintage glass flowers.

My favourite from my new haul of supplies are these little porcelain Japanese flowers, I had planned these as being for bobby pins but they are so beautiful that I can't part with them! Ideas on a postcard (or comments box hehe) for what I can do with them please.

I've got two more pairs of earrings to list plus a gorgeous multicolour bracelet too, so keep checking back!

Hard worker

I've been very determined so far this week, at keeping my shop flowing with new lovelies.
I seem to have been inspired by the slightly more thundery weather of this week, these look particularly rustic to me. All of these are in my Etsy shop.

one of a kind..

{a nice person on flickr says I have 'boken' or 'bokeh' on this picture,
I didn't realise it myself but I think I have?
}

I've been hunting extra carefully and I am so pleased to bring you this set of rare 1940s beads in the form of earrings and a necklace.

They are my favourite kind of beads, they have a rippled watery kind of texture and are nice high quality glass. I've had them in a deep amber before and now I've found them in this rich purple.
I've matched them with gold fill and dark oxidized silver.

I hope you like :)

I hope to find more beads in this style but different colours, who knows? I may or may not! Fingers crossed.

foodie goodies + new earrings

I'm afraid I've been neglecting this blog recently, I'm afraid the lure of Twitter is too much, it is far easier for me to keep up a twitter account rather than a blog account. But I will try harder to write here!

For now, the good weather is providing me with lots of opportunities to take photos, so I am snapping everything in sight. I think the summer may turn this blog into a photo blog. Hope you enjoy these pictures from my week.last week

From top left to bottom right - Theatre Earrings (one of a kind), Cherry Tomato Pizza, Vanilla Caramel Earrings & Home grown spuds.

Wrapped with Love

I am pleased to say I have introduced new packaging for all my orders!
All purchases are gift boxed and now wrapped in sheet music and a little Lazy Giraffe sticker.
I haven't quite been able to relinquish using the satin ribbon so some of my orders will go out with gorgeous thick shiny colourful ribbon.

As you might be aware Valentines day is approaching!
To celebrate I am offering 15% off all my Valentines Gifts. See the special section in my Etsy shop for details. All prices are already adjusted so no need to wait for a revised invoice - shop away!
My new packaging will also add a perfect touch to your valentine gift.

I've been able to reclaim my studio so there will be new items in the shop this week, watch out for new listings in my Etsy shop. I have just listed a pair of 'Sweet Dreams' earrings, to match my Sweet Dreams necklace.

This weekend..

New Packaging Ideas, originally uploaded by lazygiraffe.

Has been a bit hectic over here, we have gained another furry friend in our household, our new cat Jess. She's a beautiful black and white long haired cat, 15months old. Very good natured and purry! We've had a bit of hissing and growling between her and our other cat Tilly, but they are tentatively accepting each other.

All this has meant zero production on the jewellery front. She's having my studio room as her settling in room and so the beads have been safely packed away from her who likes to jump on things and chase chains. Plus furry beaded jewellery is not very nice. Hopefully she'll be settled in soon and my studio will become a cat free zone again.

I have instead been looking at new packaging, i've been meaning to try something new for a while. Currently my packages go out in black gift boxes tied with ribbon. I have lots of gorgeous vintage sheet music paper which works really well as a 'wrap' for the boxes. I am of course colour copying it rather than hacking into the lovely paper!
Its still in progress but I think my packages will be finished with thinner ribbon and maybe a little sticker too.

Look out for new style packaging in your next order!

Sweet Treats

I think I'm a bit half way on Valentines day, on one hand I don't like the commercialism of it all - just another excuse for the shops to make a bit of money but then on the other its nice to have an excuse to curl up on the sofa with a bottle of wine on Valentines night and exchange cards and presents :)

Valentines has clearly been affecting my work lately anyway, suddenly I am reaching for pinks, reds and anything sweet and feminine! I have lots of romantic jewellery in my shop and also some simple jewellery which is perfect for a classic gift that your Valentine will keep forever.

Amongst them is my Sweetheart range, earrings and a bracelet. The bracelet has already sold but I will have it in stock again soon, once I receive more wire (the trouble with being solidly creative for a week is that I get through my supplies so quickly!). This range is unashamedly girly, feminine, sweet, sugary, romantic and bright!

I hope you enjoy my new pieces, I will be also listing more spring like jewellery in the next few weeks, the emergence of snow drops in my garden has made me yearn for daffodils and tulips!
